In 2014, AJ Allmendinger accomplished a lifelong dream by winning his first NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International. For Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway, the California native will run an identical paint scheme.
Sponsored by Hyperice, the No. 16 Chevrolet will feature the baby blue and white that was on Allmendinger’s car for the Cheez-It 355 at the Glen. That day, Allmendinger led 29 laps, swapping the lead back and forth with Marcos Ambrose late in the going.
Allmendinger has never competed in an Xfinity race at Darlington. However, in 11 Cup starts at the track, he has an average finish of 26.1, with a best finish of 15th, also coming in 2014.
For @AJDinger‘s 2021 #NASCARThrowback scheme, Kaulig Racing will be throwing back to 2014!
His @Hyperice scheme will look a bit different this weekend as it honors his first-ever @NASCAR Cup Series victory that came at @WGI in August 2014!#MoveBetter | #NASCAR pic.twitter.com/IuuART2Cg6
