This weekend you will get the chance to watch Joey Gase at two different race tracks with two completely different vehicles. Friday night Joey will be racing what is called a Champ Kart at local go kart track, Snydersville Raceway, for the $1000 TO WIN JOHN LARUE MEMORIAL. Then on Sunday Joey will be racing in the NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Pocono Raceway for Jimmy Means Racing.
At the age of 18, Joey tragically lost his mother, Mary, to a sudden brain aneurysm. Faced with a difficult decision, he and his family decided to donate his mother‘s organs and tissue. Later, they learned that her gift helped to save and improve the lives of 66 people.
Joey developed a passion for educating others on the need for organ, eye and tissue donation and honoring all of those affected by it. His car regularly features the face of his mother and other donors, making his car one of the most unique in NASCAR.
“I am very excited to be teaming up with Gift of Life Donor Program this weekend not only at Pocono Raceway on Sunday but also for something a little fun and different at the go kart track on Friday,” said Gase. “I have to thank Hunter Smith, my trainer at FitStop Performance, and Alex Greenzweig from Snyderville Raceway for welcoming Gift of Life Donor Program and I with open arms. I am also super excited to get back behind the 52 car for Jimmy Means Racing this weekend. Jimmy gave me my first big break in the sport and accomplished some really cool things together from 2012-2017 that a team with our budget and size was not supposed to be able to do, including finishing 5th at Talladega SuperSpeedway.”
“Organ donation is something that has been a cause that is very important to me since my mom passed away,” Gase continued. “At that time, organ donation was something I didn‘t know a lot about and never had much of a conversation about with my mom. Since we did not have her driver‘s license with us at the hospital we had to make that decision for her. We said yes and luckily when we went home and found her driver‘s license she had said yes on there! Knowing that we made the correct decision for my mom gave us a great relief. That is why I don‘t only want to encourage everyone to be donors I also want everyone to have that conversation with their loved ones. It would have been horrible if we said no and later we found out she had would have been wanted to be a donor and she could not have helped those 66 people.”
“Gift of Life Donor Program is proud to partner with Joey Gase at the NASCAR XFINITY Series at Pocono Raceway and Snydersville Raceway. More than 100,000 men, women and children across the U.S. are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, 5,000 people are waiting in this region alone. We admire his commitment to increasing awareness of the life-saving power of organ and tissue donation within the racing community,” said a spokesperson for Gift of Life Donor Program.
Make sure to come out to Snyderville Raceway Friday night and visit Joey at the Gift of Life booth and tune in to watch the XFINITY Series race Sunday at 12:00 ET on NBCSN.
