Chase Elliott will drive in place of Michael Annett in today’s Pennzoil 150 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Annett has missed two prior races (Atlanta and New Hampshire) because of a stress fracture in his right femur. During the two off weeks, he had surgery to repair his right leg.

In Annett’s return last weekend at Watkins Glen International, he finished 11th. Entering today’s 150-miler, Annett had a 30-point advantage on Riley Herbst for the final playoff position.

During Friday’s rare practice session, Annett completed just one lap and ran off course twice, while posting the slowest time — more than 12 mph slower than Kyle Tilley, who was the next slowest.

For Elliott, it will be his first Xfinity Series start since the 2019 season opener, where he finished 1oth for JR Motorsports. The 2014 series champion has seven career Cup Series victories on road courses, including two earlier this season.
