Motorsports giant NASCAR and Hillwood Development Company LLC have partnered to build a new industrial property adjacent the Daytona International Speedway.

The motorsports firm and the Dallas-based industrial, commercial and residential developer have begun construction on the first phase of Commerce 500, a new industrial property with the potential to include 2 million square feet of space on more than 200 acres near the racetrack.

The initial phase of the project — located at the intersection of Interstate 4 and Interstate 95 — consists of 635,000 square feet of industrial space for an e-commerce tenant.

Lesa France Kennedy, executive vice chairwoman with NASCAR, added: “Since March 2020, we have been working with Hillwood to evaluate the highest and best use for land not currently being utilized across all NASCAR-owned racetracks. With their help, we’ve been able to contribute to additional, long-term economic development across several communities in which we race, including in Florida.”
