Mike Harmon confirmed to Jayski.com that Gray Gaulding and Tim Viens will compete for his Xfinity Series team next weekend in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway.

Over the offseason, Mike Harmon Racing’s two primary drivers from 2021 departed the team, with Bayley Currey racing for JD Motorsports on a full-time basis and Kyle Weatherman confirmed to compete for DGM Racing in the first five events.

Gaulding will pilot MHR’s No. 47 car, which finished 31st in the Xfinity Series owner’s standings last year. Viens will strap into the team’s No. 74 machine, and will attempt to make his fifth series start. All four of Viens‘ previous starts came while racing for Hamon, earning a best result of 18th (Daytona II, 2020).

Gaulding has made 66 career Xfinity Series starts, earning a pair of runner-up finishes in superspeedway races for SS GreenLight Racing. The Virginia native has made three prior starts with MHR, including his final two starts of the 2021 season at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL and Kansas Speedway.

On Jan. 27, Harmon won his appeal for illegal on-track activity, coming at an exhibition charity event at Rockingham Speedway. The penalty was modified to a loss of 75 team owner and driver points.

Sponsorship announcements regarding the Nos. 47 and 74 cars at Daytona could come out later this week. Harmon said nothing is set in stone past Daytona.
