Ross Chastain can’t wait for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona.
Few drivers have as much confidence as the 29-year-old Alva, Florida native after last Sunday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Not only did he finish third, the best finish in Trackhouse Racing’s 42-race Cup history, but he gave the team its first stage victory and led 83 laps – outpacing the 75 laps led in his 117 race Cup career.
Sunday marked the second consecutive race a Trackhouse Chevrolet has been in contention for a win. Teammate Daniel Suárez challenged for the win two weeks ago at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California before finishing fourth.
After Sunday’s performance, it is fitting Chastain’s No. 1 Chevrolet will carry the colors of K1 SPEED – the premiere indoor karting facility in the United States and around the world.
K1 provides European style kart racing on professionally designed tracks with high performance electric karts. Sunday marks its first appearance at a Cup race on a Trackhouse Chevrolet.
It’s been a busy week for Chastain.
He stayed in Las Vegas Sunday night to attend Monday’s Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMs) at Allegiant Stadium.
Chastain is familiar with Phoenix. Sunday marks his eighth Cup start on the mile oval where he owns a best finish of 14th in NASCAR’s premiere series. In the Xfinity Series at Phoenix, Chastain has 11 starts with a best finish of seventh along with 14 laps led.
Fox will broadcast Sunday’s 400-mile race at 3:30 p.m. ET.
