HISTORY

The official opening of Dover Motor Speedway, then called Dover Downs International Speedway, was in 1969.The first NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover Motor Speedway was held on July 6, 1969 and won by NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty driving a Ford for Petty Enterprises. The average speed of the race was 115.772 mph.The first two races at Dover were 300 miles.
