NASCAR Weather Forecast Discussion
3:45 PM CDT, Thurs 7/3 - A ridge of high pressure over the upper Ohio Valley and Appalachians will keep skies clear Saturday. As the ridge interacts with a cold front advancing across the upper Midwest, warm southwesterly winds will increase through the day. Combined with a strong upper-level ridge, temperatures will be into the mid-90s. The heat index will hover near 100°F.
On Sunday, the cold front is forecast to move across the area in the afternoon hours. The warm, moist flow coupled with the frontal lift and favorable upper-level dynamics will lead to afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High levels of precipitable water across the region could lead to heavy rainfall rates and afternoon totals exceeding 1 inch.

More about the Chicago Street Course
NASCAR’s Chicago Street Course is a groundbreaking addition to the sport’s schedule, marking the first time in its 75-year history that a Cup Series race is held on city streets. Introduced in 2023 and returning for its second year in 2024, the course winds through the heart of downtown Chicago, blending the high-speed action of stock car racing with the urban backdrop of a major metropolitan area.
The 2.2-mile, 12-turn circuit loops around iconic landmarks like Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain, and Columbus Drive. With a mix of tight corners, long straights, and dramatic elevation changes, the course challenges drivers in ways unlike any traditional oval or road course. The event not only tests the adaptability and skill of NASCAR’s top talent but also redefines the fan experience. Spectators get to witness racing up-close against the skyline of Chicago, with music, food, and entertainment integrated into the weekend festival atmosphere.
NASCAR collaborated closely with the City of Chicago to bring the event to life, carefully planning road closures, public safety logistics, and infrastructure needs. While the inaugural event in 2023 was impacted by rain, it still generated strong interest from fans, sponsors, and media, leading to its return in 2024.
Beyond racing, the Chicago Street Race is part of NASCAR’s broader strategy to reach new audiences and expand its urban footprint. It combines sport and spectacle, bringing NASCAR to the center of a global city and exposing a diverse crowd to the thrill of stock car competition in an unexpected setting. With growing momentum and fan enthusiasm, the Chicago Street Course has quickly become one of the most anticipated events on the racing calendar.
