Oddsmakers have been stubborn in their belief that Kyle Larson was going to turn his season around and win the Cup Series. They still are, as Larson is the favorite at +600. However, he‘s no longer alone as Cup Series leader Chase Elliott has tied him.
At the All-Star break, Larson was the clear favorite at +550, but he‘s seen his odds lengthen to +600. Meanwhile, Elliott has moved from +650 to +600. That creates a tie between last year‘s champion and the current Cup Series leader.
Those aren‘t the only moves being made though. Denny Hamlin is third at +800 despite not being in a playoff spot with 10 races to go. Meanwhile, Ross Chastain sits +900, 5th on the market, despite sitting 2nd in the standings with the most wins, top-5 finishes, and top-10 finishes this season.
Quote from OddsChecker spokesman Kyle Newman, “Oddsmakers‘ faith in Kyle Larson hasn‘t been rewarded yet. He still sits 7th in the standings and he hasn‘t won a race since February. So, it shouldn‘t come as a surprise that Chase Elliott has finally caught him. That said, it is weird that oddsmakers don‘t like Chastain much despite leading NASCAR in wins, top-5 finishes, and top-10 finishes this season. It‘ll be interesting to watch how oddsmakers deal with him as the season continues on.”
