Greg Ives, crew chief of the #48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driven by Alex Bowman, announced on Twitter on Friday that he would be stepping down as crew chief at the end of the 2022 season.

“After 17 seasons on the road and making countless memories, I’ve decided to step away as a crew chief at the end of 2022. There are many reasons, but the most important one is the chance to focus on my family and spend more time with our kids as they frow up,” Ives explained.

Ives began working for HMS in 2004 before moving over to JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series. He returned to HMS in 2015, moving into the role as Cup Series crew chief.

The Ives and Bowman have earned one win and a spot in the Playoffs so far this season.

Some news to share. I‘m so grateful for all the support. pic.twitter.com/9k2Ow4FnoR
