NASCAR legend Richard Petty made an appearance in Randolph County on Thursday.

Unusually, he’s known as the “The King,” but Randleman High School students may as well have called him Santa Claus.

Petty brought with him a gift — a $25,000 donation of equipment and tools for Randleman High School’s career technical education program. The donation is part of a partnership between Petty and Northern Tool + Equipment.

“It was really special come back to Randleman High School, where I graduated,” Petty said. “And to be able to work with Northern, too, and give the shop some welders and some different things, for them to be able to learn their crafts.”
