Colin Fern, the former longtime Brandonbilt Motorsports technical director, intends on fielding a part-time Xfinity Series entry during the 2023 season under the name FRS Racing.

FRS Racing, which is a culmination of Fern‘s last name, his mother‘s maiden name (Catherine Ring) and his late stepfather‘s last name (Will Sherman), is set to debut on April 1 at Richmond Raceway, with a driver to be named later. Fern will attempt to enter the No. 96 Chevrolet in select races during the 2023 season, using Richard Childress Racing chassis and engines provided by ECR Engines.

“FRS Racing is the culmination of an entire offseason‘s worth of hard work trying to build a brand from scratch,” Fern said in a statement. “I am extremely excited for this opportunity, and I cannot thank Jerry Brown (owner of Brandonbilt Motorsports) and David Clarke (general manager of Brandonbilt) enough for their visions and belief in me to carry on what they‘ve built. I look forward to being on track part time in 2023, with the hope that we can be full time come the 2024 season.”
